WHAT IS PROFESSIONALISM

For young entrepreneurs, corporate associates, and students who aspires for a profession and wants to make it big in a just living, needs to have an answer to this question – what is professionalism?

That day I came across a skating instructor for kids whom the parents admired for his sheer ‘professionalism’. They say he always comes on time, gives equal opportunity to all the kids, physically sweats it out himself and seems to enjoy his job. So he is a ‘professional’.

On the other hand we do come across people whom we label as ‘unprofessional’. We observe certain common character traits in them – never delivers on time, work or product never to our satisfaction, quality compromised, promise not kept and value-for-money not found.

An aspiring professional needs to be sensitive about it. A professional is a person who will not only deliver but will also take care to make a 360 degree deliverance.

So to answer my question, what is ‘professionalism’?

Professionalism is an attitude -
1. To give your 100% to the job that you undertake.
2. To do justice to the trust of people that they have put in you.
3. To deliver, no matter what.
4. And to respect yourself.

A professional is a person who can deliver without being supervised. He is a person who knows how to give his 100% even when no one is looking. And can certify his own work.

A person who can give his 100% only in the presence of his boss is ‘unprofessional’.

How do you judge professionalism in a person? Or how do you evaluate the professional in you?

Since it’s an attitude, the attitude lives with him and spills over to his other aspects of life and not remain confined to only the job that pays him money.

Like a successful Vice President of a company, when he enters the kitchen to fix up a simple breakfast of toast-scrambled-eggs-and-coffee will do so with perfection, will probably have a special touch to it and will also leave the cook-top clean after use! These people, when they pick up a hobby, usually do well at it. They will display distinct ideology, honesty and values. And if you invite them to a party, they are usually quiet punctual.

A housewife and a mother who packs the kids lunch box early in the morning and puts them on the bus sharp at 8AM, no-matter-what, is a professional.

A dad, who promises his son to be there for his school annual sports day and keeps his promise is a professional.

A housemaid who rings the doorbell every morning at 7am, be it rain, storm or sunshine is a professional.

The attitude lives on.

When we take up a job, we all do so for money. But a professional attitude would be to also evaluate, if we are skilled enough for that job, whether we will be able to do justice to our salary, and whether we will like doing the job. This giving-the-best attitude will in turn benefit us. If we like the job, we will give it our best. And when we give any job our best we will always prosper.

So when we are talking about professionalism, we are talking about the right kind of attitude and with that, all life’s complicated battles are won!

Love Problems

Learn to Love Problems
Learn to love problems because they mean profit!

The greatest fortunes, the top executives and CEO's and the entrepreneurs that you admire all have one thing in common; they made their money by solving problems, dealing with BIG challenges and putting out fires.

Why most people never make it and have great success in life is because they shy away from problems in every area of their life. They don't want to deal with problems and the tough stuff and that is why their income will always be limited and they will never achieve any great level of success.

The greater the problems, the greater the income and I know on Monday morning the last thing you want to do is deal with problems, but you have to learn to love problems because the more problems you face on a day to day basis and the bigger the problems the greater the rewards!

Top CEO's get paid the big money to deal with big problems and the wages drop as you go down the chain of command based on the level of problems one has to deal with on a daily basis and the size of those problems. Sure the cleaner and receptionist have to deal with problems but their problems and challenges are small and insignificant in comparison to what the top CEO's deal with day and night.

So if you want to make the BIG money and have massive levels of success you know that you have to be willing to handle the stress and deal with problems, lots of problems and hopefully big problems. This is how the great fortunes are made and that is why the top earners get paid insane amounts of money. It doesn't matter whether it's the top surgeons or lawyers or business men like Mukesh Ambani, Ram Jethmalani or Vijay Mallya; they all have to deal with things you simply don't want to deal with 24 hours a day.

I wish you lots of prosperity this Republic day. I hope President Obama’s visit to our motherland opens new doorways for India in the International scene.

Love,BSR.

8 THIGS FOR LEADERS & ENTREPRENEURS TO LEARN FROM MODI

Was just following this charismatic personality for the last many months. I believe each leader and entrepreneur can learn many things from this legend. here are few lessons which i have learnt and thus thought of sharing with you.

1. Power, position and designation will take you to your destination. While charm will take you everywhere. Prime Minister Modi has attracted all the right kind of attention by using his charm. He is probably the only Prime Minister in the world who is labelled as a ‘Rock-star’.

THE LESSON: Work on your charm factor. It will bring in dividends beyond your calculated ones.

2.  When Modi speaks, people of the world listen. When he dresses, it makes a style statement. When he cracks a joke, everyone laughs. Modi’s persona, in a nutshell, is what leaders are made of.

THE LESSON: Don’t just do your job. Make a difference. Be a leader.

3. When the opposition labelled him as a mere ‘chai-wala’, Modi made it his sole election propaganda. He propagated excellence, perseverance, honesty, intent and strength of character that has the power of transforming even a ‘chai-wala’ to the Prime Minister of the largest democracy of the world. He used this transformation of his as a motivational speech to an audience that has the largest number of youths, as per statics.

THE LESSON: Turn your weaknesses into your strengths. Find out where it can work, and use it to your advantage. If a certain section of the population was ready to beat Modi down as a mere tea-seller, he fished out an ocean of young people and showed them the immense possibility of success, if only they tried.

4. Modi talks of Gandhi, cutting across party lines, because he knows that Gandhi is still the greatest leader and a matter of pride for all Indians across the globe. When he gives ‘swatch- India’ a Gandhi face, and the idea a spin as the ultimate tribute to the beloved leader, he knows he has made his connect 5 generations deep.

THE LESSON: Never stop chasing new ideas or shining up an old one. It’s this very idea that will make the water flow and keep it fresh. The rest, everything that is stagnant will stale.

5. Within the very first week of taking oath as a Prime Minister, he announced that there will be some tax raise, as the economy is in very bad condition. He said that while there is a certain section of the population who leads a decent and comfortable life, as a Prime Minister his focus will be on that population who sleeps on the streets and eats from the gutter. In an address to a group of students, he shared a well-drawn plan on how he proposed to do so.

THE LESSON: Be courageous. Be honest. Be upfront and share the larger plan. Make even the smallest player significant enough to feel his importance --That even their contribution counts. You will find not just workers who works for a fee, but a group of energised people who provides an immense support system.

6. Modi went to Sydney, which is the largest studying destination for Indians and addressed the Indian crowd after 28 years. His US visit was said to be the largest public address by any Indian Prime Minister overseas. After his visit to Fiji, the Fiji Prime Minister said that for Indians, Fiji will always have a special place. At Madison square the sheer strength of crowd that came to cheer him gave him the rock-star status. There are many more.

THE LESSON: In business, don’t just sign in papers, make a deal and sell your products. Build a brand. And empower the brand with skilful market strategy. Today Modi is just not an Indian Prime Minister – he is a brand – the Modi brand.

7. These days when Modi address the crowd or talks to the media he focuses on what he is doing. He is full of plans and shares them across the board. He does not waste time on making defending statements on the accusations of the oppositions or criticize them.

THE LESSON: The only way to success is by highlighting your own work and not by putting down others.

8. There was a photograph circulated recently on social networking site of Modi, in his younger days, cleaning the floor with a broom in his hand. Party senior leaders said that he has been a silent but relentless party worker. He later became the Chief Minister of Gujrat and changed the face of it. What he has done for Gujrat is an exemplary lesson for all future leaders. Now he is the Prime Minister of India and the one that the nation is looking up to with renewed hope after a very long time.

THE LESSON: Hardwork. Perseverance. Confidence. Hope and honesty. Any person looking for success needs to harbour this five virtues. Will it be impossible without any of these virtues? The answer is a big ‘YES’.

There is a saying “Learn from the mMaster.” From being a tea seller at a corner tea shop to becoming the Prime Minister of the country, the journey has been a long and enlightening one. These days when he speaks, I listen, for he has done it. He is the master. He will tell you to have dreams and they do come true. He will tell you the power of trust and hope. He will show you the virtue of team work. And above all, he will teach you to believe in yourself. Because that belief will take you to your sun!

4. Choose saving your money instead of spending on things you don’t really want!
Invest your time on your own personal development and growth instead of wasting your time on entertainment!

Winners Never Quit and Quitters Never Win

Winners Never Quit and Quitters Never Win

With just 33 days left to the opening game of the 11th ICC World Cup, all 14 teams have submitted their final squads with the ICC. The entire nation, including me, is charged up for this much sought after event. But I look at it not just as a mere source of entertainment, but as a way of life.

There’s a reason so many motivational speakers use sports as a metaphor for life. There are innumerable parallels between what it takes to be successful both in real life and on the playing field. The qualities of determination, skill, and hard work contribute to a man’s chance of winning in both arenas. Unfortunately, as men’s character off the field has declined, so has their behavior on it. Men pout and even cry when they lose, they gloat when they win.

So here are some tips that will help you incorporate a good sportsmanship in your life:

1.       Be a team player

2.       Stay positive

3.       Lose gracefully

4.       Be a role model

5.       Respect the leader‘s role

6.       Avoid comparing employees to one another

7.       Don‘t make it all about winning and losing

8.       Play the No-blame Game

9.       Celebrate success as a group

10.   Present consequences for poor sportsmanship

11.   Put the Work into Teamwork

Good sportsmanship encompasses many aspects of a man’s character, the most fundamental being respect. The good sportsman respects his. He plays with integrity. A success that does not come fairly holds no satisfaction for him. He is honest in his dealings with opponents, because he treats them the way he wants to be treated. He is unselfish in his desire to see all his teammates participate in a project. He is humble in his victories, and has the proper perspective on his losses. In short, the qualities that go in to making a good man are the same ones that contribute to being a great sportsman. So I hope you guys will incorporate few of the above mentioned guidelines into your daily life.

Until next time,  loads of happiness, BSR.

Are You Working on your Personality Flaws?

It all starts out the same... and every day you know that this is the day that everything is going to change.

Today, everything will work out just like you have been planning in your head; Breathe deeply, say positive attributes, do away with negativity, don't say the wrong things, don't talk before thinking and watch the anger over little things.

Looks complicated when you write it all down-doesn't it? Thinking and saying these things seem so much easier!

It can be easier if we take it all one at a time-first, think about what bothers you the most; Is it you or something you say or do?

Or is it someone else- think this through.....work on only this problem today!

Maybe today you will decide to work on anger, so you listen to what everyone says and more importantly how you respond.

If you want to have an angry response, go to your room, or a quiet space, take deep breaths, think about what is really bothering you and then you can think about your response more rationally.

Maybe, your problem is depression and not getting out of your room or house enough.

Make a plan to do at least one thing that you wouldn't normally do; like talk to a neighbor, going shopping, or being around a lot of people smiling and laughing.

The important thing is to make sure you take care of yourself by doing the little things first, then slowly work up to the things you find harder.

Whatever and however small it may seem to you at the time, you will soon discover some wonderful new traits developing in your flowering personality.
